A few months ago, we were given the opportunity to use our expertise to create an exciting office fitout for a Melbourne-based business, Lofts Quarries. Lofts Quarries supply quarry products to Melbourne’s leading concrete recyclers and scoria distributors. The business is situated in the industrial surrounds of Richmond in Victoria, with their office spanning over two floors overlooking the old Bryant and May Factory. The design aim was to create an office fitout that creates cohesion, both visually and functionally over the two floors whilst still paying homage to the industrial surrounds. One floor was dedicated for property development, the other for earthworks.
The entrance to the office is through the third level, where a Caesarstone reception awaits guests with brass pendants above. Black timber blade walls stand beyond the stone and throughout the floorplate, which aims at connecting the industrial tones over the two floors. The entry into the property division is hidden in the wall. We used Glosswood Panels to line the walls and continued it onto the pivot door. Beyond the hidden pivot door is a boardroom, which also continues the industrial aesthetic using black transoms and mullions. The brass pendants are continued into the boardroom on a larger scale, with this we were able to tie the reception into the boardroom and allow for the brass details to continue over both levels. We used Moon-Ring pendant lights from QI Industries to break up the linear nature of the space and hung them at irregular intervals to feature above the workstations and offices. The furniture consists of charcoals, greys and tan leathers which adds to the industrial aesthetic of the space and gives a New York loft feel in the breakout areas and meeting rooms, which are also accompanied by an array of green plants.
The whole project was industrial-inspired, from the location of the office, the materials used and keeping in mind the nature of our clients’ business. By using this as a guide, we were able to confidently execute on decisions involved with choosing specific finishes to suit the design for the office fitout. We focused on using sustainable and natural material solutions throughout the fitout, which directly relate to the clients’ business philosophy. We left the ceiling untouched, which was a part of the buildings base build, allowing us to really hone onto the industrial aesthetic. We were able to transform the space further by using stunning finishes and natural materials in this Melbourne office fitout project.
