Etto is an Italian restaurant group focused on making hand-made pasta convenient and affordable to Melbournians. Their restaurants offer the experience of Italian trattoria style food with the same convenience of a fast casual restaurant. And so, their spaces are welcoming, lively and fast-paced all at the same time. Canopy were entrusted with managing the build of their restaurant fitout and hoped to strike the perfect balance between cost-effectiveness, aesthetics and functionality. Read on to see how!
To build affordably means to build creatively. Where there were opportunities to save costs, we were able to utilise the expertise of our in-house estimation and interior design team. Working alongside their talented designer, Kano Hollamby, we were able collaborate on more cost-effective alternatives to tile and paint choices along the wall perimeter.
The booth seating areas were paramount to the mood of the space, and yet building this into the fitout was no small feat. Since lighting was a key component to booth seating areas, we needed to work with both our joiner and electrician to ensure the electrical components could be concealed without compromising the overall look and feel of the space. In the same way, where curved walls were involved, we needed to ensure these were built in a way which would also not interrupt the mechanical and electrical services.
Towards the latter end of the year, the scarcity of trades and supplies always poses challenges when building restaurant fitouts. Fortunately, the strong relationship we have with our contractors gave us priority as well as the foresight to plan ahead for the build of the fitout. Conscious of longer supplier lead times, we also had enough time to prepare and source alternatives locally.
We engaged Canopy to build our most recent restaurant fit-out for our new pasta bar in Richmond. This was out 8th fitout over ten years and our most ambitious. The design was demanding of trades, the building shell was old, and our timeline was 'ASAP'. We were really happy with the whole process and the result is an absolute realisation of our vision for our brand and restaurant. Without exception the trades Canopy brought to the project were first rate, and everyone involved was easy to deal with. Whenever there was an issue (which in my experience is part of the process) they resolved it fast and painlessly. I give Canopy our strongest recommendation and we'll definitely be using them on our next fitout.
