Our team at Canopy was thrilled to be chosen as their Fitout Contractor to create an office fitout that would refresh and reinvigorate their workspace for their staff, boosting productivity and inspiration at work.

The Project and Design

It was great to be given a lot of freedom with the initial design concepts and ideation of the fitout. Our team of expert interior designers and architects worked closely with the management team at Silk Contract Logistics to understand their unique office space needs, and delivered a proposal that met each one.  One of the key requests for this office fitout was to foster and improve inspiration and energy among staff through a modern, reinvigorated workplace design. The management at Silk Contract Logistics wanted to nurture the efficiency and overall wellbeing of their staff, so we set to work on creating a space that fostered collaboration but also allowed for autonomy when required.

A major part of the office fitout was the communal space for staff to relax and take a break from their desks. This was to be the nucleus of the office, complemented by accents of greenery to provide the area with fresh oxygen to increase productivity and furniture selected specifically to provide practicality and comfort.

How We Executed The Fitout

While our designers and architects had ample inspiration to draw from with the industrial surrounds of Port Melbourne and view of the Bolte Bridge, the challenge with this office fitout project was working with an already-existing angled wall at the entrance. This can often be restricting, however our experienced and creative team grabbed the challenge with both hands.

“The unusual shape of the tenancy, with a fire hose reel located in the middle of the space, created a challenging area to lay the required number of workstations. It was like finding the shoe that fits,” says interior designer Kate Dickeson.  

“While it was a tricky space to work with, it was really important to the client that they had the offices on the perimeter wall. Canopy managed to achieve this in this office fitout by creating a collaborative area in the rear corner of the space that allowed for more communal discussion,” she says.

Tying The Look Together

To tie the look of the new workspace together, darker tones were used for the steel framing that pay homage to the industrial location of the office. The concrete-look achieved in the reception area is a nod to the famous large concrete columns of the Bolte Bridge, and is paired with black aluminium-framed glass partitions.

In the middle of the space we included a cluster of brass pendant lights to emit warm lighting. This softened the space and contrasted with the harshness of the dark-framed walls.

“We really wanted the space to encapsulate as much natural light as possible,” explains Kate. “We took advantage of the full height external windows in this office fitout and used glass partitions for the office fronts to avoid a dark, crammed in feel.”
