The Pickle and The Patty

The Pickle & The Patty is all about good food done right and actually meaning it. And while our clients had been in the game for many years, this was their very first restaurant – a passion project that was years in the making! So we were honoured to be entrusted with the design and build of a space that was so close to the owners' hearts, and help them establish a fitout design framework that could be used in future venues. Read on to see how we brought their vision to life and fitted out a new destination burger spot.

Hospitality venues can feel deeply personal and the possibilities for its fitout can seem endless - especially when they could be the first of many. The clients envisioned a space that emulated their vibrant and quirky personalities, whilst still feeling timeless and elegant. Our interpretation of this focused on modernising the American diner aesthetic. The mustard, teal blue and pops of pink were taken from the existing branding's colour palette, but in subdued pastel tones to soften the space. We were able to perfectly tie these hues together in our choice of flooring and honour its classic aesthetic with our choice of terrazzo floor tiles.

Design perpetuity was high on our client's mind, given that they were hoping to replicate this design in future venues. We made a point to include contemporary elements that could endure time notably the reeded glass and walnut timbers used in the banquette seating. Similarly, we included hints of brass throughout the fitout to create a sense of elegance and sophistication. While we incorporated several subdued elements, we sought to frame the space with matte black pendant lighting and seating - which also contributed to the modern aesthetic we were wanting to achieve.

Our hospitality designs always consider the kind of customers the client is trying to reach. In this case, the fitout needed to accommodate families and large groups, and feel cosy and inviting. In each dining area, from the banquette seating to high and low tables, you could eat in groups of any size and combine tables – and it still feels intimate. The incorporation of warm lighting, as well as curved elements throughout the space, also plays a part in fostering a comfortable environment.

While aesthetics is a large part of our design intent in fitouts, functionality and compliance must also be considered. While it was challenging to work with a smaller space, we were able to put together a floor plan that could seat 40 people and allow staff and customers to move through the space with ease. By the same token, we ensured the materials we specified were still in line with health and safety requirements, without compromising the look and feel of the fitout – notably the flooring and suspended ceiling.

By being attentive to our client's vision, our team could design and build an timeless restaurant fitout that could last in years to come.
