Rethinking the Everyday Car Wash
Located on a prominent corner site in Melbourne’s north-west, Airport West Car Wash presented an opportunity to challenge expectations. Rather than treating the project as purely functional, the brief called for a thoughtful refurbishment that could elevate the experience for customers while improving operational efficiency.
Function First, Without Compromise
The primary objective was to rejuvenate the existing site, enhancing functionality, ensuring compliance with current standards, and embedding the Airport West Car Wash brand into the built environment.
The approach was intentionally restrained. This was not about unnecessary embellishment, but about clarity of form, quality of materials, and creating an overall cohesive experience.

A Design Language Shaped by Form
The existing curved façade was embraced as the defining architectural gesture. The interior design celebrates the curve, allowing it to inform detailing and spatial flow in the reception space.
This subtle repetition creates a continuous visual language between exterior and interior, strengthening the relationship between the building’s street presence and the customer journey inside.

Restrained Materials, Clear Intent
A minimal material palette reinforces the project’s practical focus. Dark render anchors the building within its context, allowing the curved form to stand proud while providing durability suited to a high-use environment.
Signage is clear and legible, delivering brand recognition without overpowering the architecture. Inside, detailing remains purposeful - supporting ease of movement, operational efficiency and long-term performance.
